Could it be said that there's a new team on the rise in the NFC?
After weeks of inconsistency and a bye-week, the Falcons finally put together a complete performance Monday night after a 24-14 win over the Buffalo Bills. A strong offensive front and the confident energy that buzzed from the crowd was what helped push the Falcons toward that electric win they'd been missing. And though the energy and the explosive offense helped, it was the defense that showed what it is capable of for the first time this year.
The Bills are arguably one of the leagues best offenses, and this Falcons defense was able to hold it to less than 300 yards and 14 points. And while the defense sent a huge message to the Bills offense, the superstar that topped it off was Bijan Robinson.
Robinson, a top running back in the NFL, had his breakout moment where he reached an all time high in personal rushing yards. 19 carries for 170 yards, including one 81-yard touchdown. In front of a prime-time audience, the 23-year-old made headlines along with Drake London, another youngster who had an excellent game.
London, who came away with 10 catches for 158 yards and scored one touchdown, had to be on his A-game without his teammates, Darnell Mooney and Ray-Ray McCloud III. He embodied composure and determination throughout the entire game even throughout the last few seconds of the second quarter where he nearly scored, but was ruled out just before the goal line.
This Monday Night Football victory is something this Falcons team and fans should hold onto for a while. The Falcons are 8-1 on MNF and this win will inject a much needed confidence moving forward into the season, especially in next week's matchup against the San Francisco 49ers on SNF.
Atlanta will play at Levi's Stadium Oct. 19th @ 8 p.m.
